How To Clean Your Concrete Driveway

There are few things in life that are more satisfying than watching a pressure cleaner blasting away that stubborn layer of dirt to reveal what was your pure, pristine driveway underneath.

But not everyone has a pressure cleaner sitting in their garage.

So the question is, what is the best way to clean your driveway without one?

Here are some super simple and easy tips for getting your driveway looking like new again, all without the use of a pressure cleaner.

If none of these tips are successful for your driveway, or you are unable to try these things yourself, or the area is too large- then give us a call and we can organise to pressure clean your driveway for you.

Tip #1 – Never Underestimate the Power of a Good Sweep

The first thing you want to do is get rid of that surface layer of dirt that has settled on top and in between the cracks. Doing this now will reduce the amount of dirt running down the driveway when you hose it down later, making your job a lot easier in the long run.

Tip #2 – Rinse It Well

Just using your regular old garden hose, spray down the surface, wave goodbye to that first layer of dirt and get ready to clean.

Now it’s time to experiment. Here are a few tried and tested concoctions, so take your pick and get cleaning.

Tip #3 – Quick and Easy Spot Cleaner

This solution will help you to target stubborn stains and dislodge them from the surface of your concrete.

Mix two parts baking soda and one part bleach until you get a thick and foamy mixture. Cover your stain and then, taking a deck brush, scrub away and watch your stain disappear.

Tip #4 – Citrus Cleaner

If you’re looking for something a little less intensive that removes the use of a chemical cleaner, a citrus cleaner may be the solution for you.

Citrus fruits have long been recognised for their cleaning capabilities. The citric acid provides a gentle, eco-friendly, and effective way to remove stains and is already used in many cleaning products.

Mix hot water and citrus concentrate which can be obtained from any citrus fruit. You can adjust your ratios based on the severity of your stain. Let the mixture cool and you are ready to grab a brush and start getting rid of those driveway stains.

Tip #5 – Heavy Duty Natural Cleaner

Vinegar is another natural cleaner with a bit more power than a citrus solution.

Its high levels of acidity make it great at eating away at those tough stains that can build up on your driveway.

For a milder cleaner, mix equal parts of water and vinegar and cover the surface. Scrub with a deck cleaning brush or similar for an overall driveway clean.

If you are struggling with tougher stains like oil or grease, skip the water mixture and use the concentrated vinegar directly to cut through the grime and reveal the clean concrete underneath.

A clean driveway is not only safer by reducing slips on oil spills, but also protects your driveway from damage, and improves your curb appeal.

So, get cleaning today and enjoy the difference tomorrow.
